This card heralds unexpected, and probably unwanted, upheaval, but just because you didn’t want it doesn’t mean it won’t bring gifts. Unlike the cycles of life in the Death card, the Tower throws everything up in the air with no plan for how it’ll land — that’s up to you. This is a card of chaos, and while that might sound scary, I prefer to greet this card with a “bring it on!” attitude. In most decks, you’ll see people falling out of a tower attacked by the elements. If you look closer, you’ll also see that while the tower may be crumbling, it’s standing on a firm foundation. Perhaps the tower wasn’t constructed all that well after all? Maybe the signs of subsidence had been wilfully ignored for years. Peaceful endings are lovely, but in the real world, they are also rare. The Tower usually crops up when we’re resisting change. If something’s been on the cards (pun intended), but you’ve been avoiding it, the Tower’s telling you to deal with it. Look for your firm foundation and remember that even though the barn’s burning, the way is being cleared for a new era.
