The Queens
Queen of Wands
Keywords: Sensual, visionary, magnetic, dramatic
The Queen of Wands is one smokin’ hot mama, the embodiment of passion and creativity. She’s strong-willed and determined with a delicious confidence tempered by her watery Queen energy, so she rarely gets too obnoxious. She has outrageous creative ideas and is known to paint gigantic canvases late at night. Self-expression is her obsession; she inspires others to let their creativity FLOW. The Queen of Wands teaches us to embody our creative power and recognize magnificence. She tends towards the dramatic, but it's forgivable when you’re a visionary like her. She encourages us to trust our desires and live out our creative dreams. She believes life is for living and urges us to go after what we want, never giving in or giving up. The witchiest of the four queens, she’s often depicted with a black cat, a nod to her magical manifesting ability. She reminds us to channel the creative fire within consciously.
Queen of Cups
Keywords: Empathic, compassionate, healing, loving
The Queen of Cups embodies her element, often depicted in a body of water. She’s a natural empath, feeling what others feel and helping them understand the complexity of their emotions. Love is her currency, and compassion is her superpower. The Queen of Cups trusts her intuition above all else. She’s happiest swimming in the depths of her psyche, unraveling her dreams and mapping the moon. She teaches us to feel our emotions and not be afraid to be consumed as we work through them. She knows that complicated feelings left unfelt will fester, so she holds the space for healing. She permits us to feel how we feel and to express our emotions truthfully. With such sensitivity comes the need for energetic boundaries. The Queen of Cups reminds us to protect our tender selves when out in the world. I see her as the sister to the High Priestess, both walking through the world with one foot in the conscious and the other in the subconscious. When we channel the Queen of Cups, we are open and vulnerable in the best way. Opening our hearts to love requires a leap of faith; with this Queen’s guidance, we will land safely.
Queen of Swords
Keywords: Intelligent, discerning, assertive, articulate
“Be the queen of your thoughts, not the slave.” I have this written in my own LWB and I think it every time I draw the Queen of Swords. She is forthright and honest. She speaks her mind and inspires others with her clear-sightedness — and wit. She knows how to command a room, but more than that, she knows how to command her thoughts. She can sometimes appear cold as she can compartmentalize her feelings and let her formidable intellect take the lead. Her frankness disarms all but her closest friends. This Queen is a philosopher, forever searching for a deeper meaning. What she lacks in empathy, she makes up for in her honesty. She will always give it to you straight. She teaches us to cut through confusion and find clarity in our thoughts. She encourages us to stop procrastinating, stop doubting ourselves, and finally commit to a project. She’ll inspire you to be crystal clear in your communications with others. Whether you’re debating a point, teaching a class, or planning a TED talk, the Queen of Swords is who you need to channel.
Queen of Pentacles
Keywords: Nurturing, abundant, caring, grounded
The Queen of Pentacles embodies the energy of an earth mother. She feels the planet's rhythms and innately knows how to go with the energy flow around her. She’s grounded and present, watchful and calm. She looks after her body and tends to her health, reminding us to put ourselves first so we can care for the ones we love. As the Water of Earth, she makes the plants grow. She nurtures the planet as she nourishes herself, enjoying the physicality of life in all the ways you can imagine. She makes a Sunday roast and invites the neighbors over. She puts Band-Aids on her knees and money into college funds. She’s practical and abundant, wise and loving. The Queen of Pentacles teaches us how to give birth to the life we want. She reminds us to attend doctor’s appointments and drink more water. I see this Queen hanging out with the Empress as they embody nurturing motherly energy, but while the Empress shares her bounty with the world, the ever-practical Queen of Pentacles ensures your fridge is full. She helps us remember to look after our physical needs and makes us eat our greens!
