The Pages

Page of Wands

Keywords: creative, optimistic, idealistic, enthusiastic

If the Ace of Wands is a creative beginning, the optimistic Page of Wands is the creative fuel that gets the project off the ground. Her curiosity about the world is infectious and inspires others to get curious, too, making her a fabulous teacher (and a ring leader!) With so many questions buzzing in her head, she tends to flit from one book or project to another like the flickering flame of a burning torch (Earth of Fire). She’s confident and willing to take creative risks, even if it might end in tears. There’s a solid connection to the Fool with this Page — she’s eager to get on in life and not too worried about future problems (“I’ll figure it out,” she says). She’ll make you laugh and inspire you to use a paintbrush again. She teaches us to be fearlessly creative and nurture our brilliant ideas. She’s also a reminder to pace ourselves — the ideas will still be there in the morning!

Page of Cups

Keywords: romantic, caring, visionary, sensitive

The Page of Cups is the spiritual seeker in the Court. She’s always the first to offer emotional support to a friend in crisis, even if it might drain her. She wants to know what love is and spends much time reading personal development books to better understand her motivations. She’s just as fascinated by everything esoteric; music and poetry feed her soul. The fish that often appears on the Page symbolizes her boundless imagination and the deep depths of her psyche. This dreamy Page teaches us about kindness and compassion and reminds us to express our feelings even if we don’t fully understand them yet — that will come once we give them space to be. “Don’t be afraid to open your heart,” she says. We can learn so much when we give ourselves new life experiences. The Page of Cups cherishes her sensitivity, both emotional and spiritual.

Page of Swords

Keywords: Clear-sighted, insightful, objective, curious

If you need help with a plan, the Page of Swords is the person to ask. She keeps her thinking grounded in reality and possesses that Sword-y clarity of thought that stops her from getting too emotional about a situation. She’s motivated by studying knowledge and logic, giving her a voracious appetite for new concepts and ideas. She’s an epic multitasker and always does the crossword first. “How does it work?” is always the first thing out of her mouth. Clearsighted and objective, the Page of Swords is who you want to channel when solving a problem. She teaches us to think outside the box and get curious about other possibilities.

She might not always get it right, but she’ll figure out how she got it wrong. She teaches us to stay curious about the world and our place in it.

Page of Pentacles

Keywords: Diligent, practical, trustworthy, cautious

The Earth of Earth sounds like she will be an exceptionally grounded soul, right? And indeed, she’s practical, intellectual, and nurturing, too.

She’s the most patient of the Pages, often depicted holding a book. She’s not afraid to do the work necessary to learn a new skill and is a natural apprentice. She’ll carefully weigh the options before deciding, so if you’re about to quit your job, the hastily Page of Pentacles will sit you down and ask: “Have you thought this through?” To me, she feels like the sanity keeper of the Court. All that solid Earthy

energy keeps her feet squarely on the ground. But she’s not overly severe or dull — she brings some much-needed practicality. She

teaches us how to realize our dreams by taking practical steps and practicing patience. Like a seedling's slow but steady growth, with water, oxygen, and sunlight (the other three elements), new possibilities will be born. Everything starts in the Earth.
